The Source of Life

by Debbie Nelson ~ June 2006 ~ Various Text

Where can I go for hope? Where can I find peace? Where do my weaknesses turn to strengths? In any trial, Jesus is the answer! He is the source of Life! Psalm 105:4 tells us to “Seek the LORD and His strength; seek his presence continually!” His presence changes everything!

When I am hurt or discouraged I am tempted first to run to anything, but God. In the past I would often call my husband or scoop up some ice cream for comfort. But only the Father can bind up my wound. When I run to Him and pour out my heart, He pours His love into me and discouragement flees. My wound begins to heal. And I am left whole and full of hope.

Throughout the day I try and remember Christ is with me—whether I feel Him or not. This changes my mindset significantly! If I know He is near, I am quick to turn to Him for help. I try to give Him all my critical and doubtful thoughts. When I do, He lovingly takes them away and my mind is free.

Now, what about the manifest presence of God? I very much need the manifest presence of God! There is nothing more wonderful then His manifested presence! The glorious cross tore the veil that once stood between God and man. We are so fortunate to live now, when we can boldly go to the throne of grace at anytime. As Hebrews 4:16 states “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

I’ve noted how He often comes through worship. True worship ushers in His presence! The more time I spend in His presence, the more I become like Christ. His very presence transforms me. In His presence I find hope. In His presence I find peace. In His presence I find joy. And it always leaves me longing for more.

It is hard to find time to spend with God. When I do, I’m often distracted by anything and everything. But my need drives me! I am desperate for His daily touch! For His truth and love to pierce the cloud of lies the enemy tries to place on me. There is victory when we press in! Matthew 7:6-8 is true:

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Isaiah 55:6 states, “Seek the LORD while He may be found; call on Him while He is near.” Time here is so short. Let’s not hesitate. Let’s run to the altar of grace and find amazing joy— robust and overflowing! This Christian life is a wild ride and full of His pleasures. I am reminded of our wonderful promise in Psalm 16:11: “You have made known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.” His presence truly changes everything!
